Snetterton

Well after the trek to Croix it was nice just to pop up the road to Snett. It was even nicer to do it with a half load, since I wasnt racing, with the sun shinning like it was summer already. I had my bike with me so that Fish could take it out for a spin and see what he thought of the File tune. I got there at 6 to find the place mobbed and was lucky to find a space by the pumps. With base camp established it was time to fire up "Gandalf" and enjoy a brew. I also unpacked my Paraguay shirt for Sat's opening world cup game. Being Scottish I get to support two teams, Scotland and anyone playing England. I did'nt make the rules I just enjoy following them. Alas one jammy o.g. was enough to hand England victory, as we say in Scotland "The Devil looks after his own".

My main task for Saturday was to ensure that all of you returned to the collecting area after race 1 for a picture. Despite speaking, very,,, slowly,,, and clearly,,, geting you all into position and ready began to resemble a Marx brothers sketch, I'm just glad no crayons were involved. Getting them all back, even in a freshly chewed state would probably have required long nose pliers. Next time we have to do something like this I'll just resort to Behaviour Modification techniques, bring a cattle prod and a bag of sweets. Note to self, bring spare batteries.

Meantime on the track those who think its big and clever to whizz round faster than anyone else did so. Its an extravagant waste of tyres and petrol and youre all just a bunch of show offs, so there. Fish took mine out Sunday morning for a shot and wasnt too impressed by the handling. Seems that the fork thingy's on the front bit that goes round were short on rebound, whatever that is - A&R dont stock it as I discovered - so I'll keep looking on E-bay for some. It might be something to do with the wheels I mused as I returned to my bike. Fish had kindly removed them and replaced the flimsy paddock stands with some bricks.

Best part of my non-racing weekend was the weather. Finally it has stopped raining and the temperature has crawled into double figures. I also took the time just to kick back and enjoy a more social side to the weekend. Cheers to all who dropped by for a drink, even if it was only a beer and most of you ikkle girlies wimped out of an "Afterburner" - not so much a drink as a piece of fiendish mischief that "Bitch Slaps" the "Pan-Galactic Gargle blaster" then pee's in its handbag.

At time of writing Brands is still a month off. Hopefully it will be as hot as last year and I'm looking forward to getting out again. I'll be out for the practice day and if I pull my finger out I aim to be back on pace for the weekends racing. Dont be shy about dropping by for a morning cup of my Java, its the perfect antidote to the "Afterburner" from the night before. This is George Watson, for Back O' the Grid, grinding his beans till Brands.
