Brands Indy

Dateline Wednesday 10:30pm, my place. I stumbled through the door doing a passable imitation of a native bearer on his way back from Tesco. By 11:30 I was packed, ready to go and just settling down to relax with an "Afterburner" or two. By 1:30 I decided it was "Timesh ish bedssh". The alarm jangled me from my slumbers at 7:30 and I made my way to the shower, pausing only to remove the pillow that was stuck to my tounge. I strolled into work just in time for the developers I support, or as I like to call them "The infinite number of monkeys", to all complain at once that their crayons needed sharpening.

Practice day. If theres a nicer way to spend a warm September Friday than skelping round Brands Hatch I'll have two please. Tho when Pastry came past I gave chase, or at least for the next two corners till baulked by a lardy diesel 400 at Clearways - well thats my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Race one and a decent start, for me at least, and a race long attempt to get past Adam Cole and Mark Francis. Came back in grinning like a dog with two tails, pretty sure I had cracked the minute for the Indy, as indeed I had. Downside was being lapped by Rick "Call me Vidal" Ballerossi two feet from the line, its not big and its not clever. It may have been more than a couple of feet, but BOTG can claim a world exclusive in that the reason for his pace was simply that he had a hairdressers appointment to catch. I can also reveal that he wears girlie underwear under his leathers, and thongs are soooo last year.

Race two and I sportingly gave everyone a 100 yard start and spent the race catching and passing Liam. Big BOTG Congratulations to Liam and Anne who are expecting. Anne is expecting a baby and Liam was expecting to pass me. Which is a bit ambitious since he's still not sure how Anne got pregnant.

Tyler "Streaky" Bacon looked like he'd had a day of it, so I offered him a plate of my home made Carbonara. He, in reply said "No Thanks. I've got some chips". So on Saturday night I walked over and described that evenings menu, his eyes grew wide as I described the repast "New potatoes, a medley of organic veg with pork steaks in a cream and pepper mustard sauce. Enjoy your chips." As I left I caught him replacing the batteries on his Sarcasm detector, apparently I broke it.

Race one sunday was familiar BOTG territory at Brands. I got clearways wrong every lap, and was thinking about clearways into paddock and so on. So I got my finger out for race two and from a so so start caught up with Lee Weston and had a thoroughly good dice with him and was back under the minute to round off my weekend. So it comes down to Lydden for our last bash of the year

I think that we really do have something to celebrate this year. This time last year we were a club with an uncertain future. Now with full grids at every meet our future is a little rosier. So a rousing BOTG three cheers to each and everyone who has slung a leg over a bike this year to compete in the YPM and lets not forget the wives, girl friends, mistresses and livestock who helped make it all possible. Georges "bar n grill" will be dispensing afterburners on Sat eve so drop by, even Rick "I have a purple tank top to go with this haircut" Ballerossi is welcome. This is George Watson for Back O' the grid already looking forward to 2006. See you all at Lydden.
